Putra Mosque
Rose-tinted granite gives the Putra Mosque its iconic pink hue, an elegance that reflects as remarkably on the inside as it does on the outside. Built by the lake in 1997, the mosque can accommodate up to 15,000 worshippers. Visitors would stop by for photographs with this sophisticated landmark, which drew inspiration from Malay and Middle Eastern influences.
Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin Mosque (Masjid Besi)
While the Pink Mosque may have stolen its thunder, the Iron Mosque (or Tunku Mizan Zainal Abidin Mosque) is another architectural wonder worth checking out. Constructed primarily from steel, “wire mesh” architecture draws inspiration from Chinese and German designs. Unlike other mosques in Malaysia, there is no minaret which is used to call for prayers. From afar, it looks like it is made of metal or glass.
Palace of Justice
The first impression anyone has when looking at the Palace of Justice would surely be on its Islamic architecture and design, particularly its Moorish elements which are often seen in other Malaysian iconic buildings like the Sultan Abdul Samad Building and the Kuala Lumpur Railway Station. It was designed to hold a large atrium and many court rooms within its realms which was designed by aQidea Architect which was responsible for the Putra Perdana complex as well. Located within the Palace of Justice are 2 Appeal Courts and 6 Federal Courts the principal architect involved in this project was Ahmad Rozi A Wahab who laid out the main motif of the building that was very much inspired by India’s Taj Mahal and Palladian culture.
Millennium Monument
Designed in 2005 to usher in the new millennium, this is the first monument to be built in Putrajaya. The walkway twirling around the monument illustrates the history of Malaysia, the panels describing significant events in the country. There is a time capsule at the base of the monument which will be opened in 2020. As you move up along the ramps of the Millennium Monument, you can see sweeping views of the waterfront.
Moroccan Pavilion Putrajaya
This Moroccan Pavilion Putrajaya was built to symbolise the strong diplomatic ties between Malaysia and Morocco. Its walls are adorned with Islamic calligraphy and intricate carvings crafted by skilled Moroccan artists and transported over to Malaysia. Feel free to wander inside the rooms but photography is only allowed in the outer corridors and courtyards. Inside the pavilion, you will notice Morrocan decorative arts like the zillij terracotta tiles, moucharabieh screens and muqarnas ceilings.
